Grace
to you and peace from God our creator and the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome
to the St. Philip's UCC web page. I am the pastor of this congregation
and I would like to tell you a little about myself. If you know some
about me, you will learn some about this wonderful congregation who has
called me to be their pastor, priest and prophet.
My
first love in the church was Christian education and I served two churches
as Director of Christian Education before I had my personal call to ordained
ministry. I hope I never lose my passion for telling the stories of faith
to our children and helping to facilitate their walk on the path of Christian
discipleship. I must say that when I was interviewing at this church
one of the things that most impressed me was that the child care children
nap in the sanctuary during the week. What a great place where children
are valued over and above the usual way of doing things.
I
have been called to preach and administer the sacraments as well as teach.
I believe that we protestants have often lost our voice to clearly witness
to our faith and that we have forgotten our Biblical basis. So, I preach
from a specific set of scriptures each Sunday so we become grounded in
our faith and I encourage us to tell our stories. We have regular Bible
study and we take time to relate the historic faith to our everyday lives
and our place in the world.
We
also work at being Christ's hands and feet in the world. We support many
institutions financially and we give of our time and talent to places
like Habitat for Humanity and the Festival of Sharing. Our greatest outreach
is the preschool and child care facility that was started by St. Philip's
folk in 1968 and continues to be a presence in the community to this
day.
I'm
involved with Bible study, teaching confirmation classes, directing a
week at Camp Moval each year and visiting those in need. I serve on the
Teaching Ministry of the Conference and the Outreach Committee of the
St. Louis Association. I will be a delegate to our National Synod this
summer.
I
do have a private life. I have two grown and married children and five
amazing grandsons. I love to read and walk and canoe and travel. I have
found great friends at St. Philip's and I invite you to visit with us.
Yours
in Christ,
Pastor
Sue
