Every change in routine is an opportunity for mindfulness.

Our lives and routine have been disrupted by the pandemic. We have been forced to do things in new ways but we are getting used to the new ways. What a golden opportunity to be intentionally mindful! Every hour we live — can make us more what God wants us to be.

Our human mind is conditioned to react by judging everything that happens in our field of vision. Within seconds of each event we see, automatic thoughts pop into our heads, such as: “That is good.” “That is bad.” “That is safe.” “That is trouble.”, “That will lead to bad habits.” “That will make me look bad.” “That will hurt.” etc.

When we choose mindfulness, we notice these reactive judgments with grace and then release our thinking to notice more. Such as: “What are my fellow human beings going through?” “What would help them feel God’s love?” “There is some ‘inner peace’ in my heart.” “What did I notice right before that ‘peace’ welled up inside me?” “Can I facilitate that ‘peace trigger’ for myself or others today?”

When Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection, the first thing he said each time was: “Peace be with you.” Perhaps that is because Jesus wants us to be as God made us: “full of inner peace” 1 John 3:21-24.

I invite you to mindfully open your thoughts — to God’s peace.
