Pilgrimage, Resurrection, and Your Life Story

Rev. Mike KrewsonA member of the Men’s Fellowship at a church I pastored a few years ago insisted that I get the young men to join. I told him that wasn’t going to happen. He persisted and after numerous such requests, we planned a listening session over breakfast in which the older men would be quiet while the younger ones outlined what it would take.

Together, the two sets of men set up the most valuable Men’s Fellowship meeting year of my career. Each month, one man from each generation took about 4 minutes to tell the group about his life, why he was part of the church, and what it means to him.

Every man who attended was blessed by each of these monthly gatherings. We learned more about each other from these four-minute speeches than we expected, even about people we had gone to church with for decades.

If you are willing to tell your four-minute overview of your faith journey (or your life any way you like), please let me know and, together, we will strive to find the right way to incorporate the telling.

Our worship focus theme for March and April continues to be ‘Pilgrimage – The Way.’ As we lead up to the Resurrection (Sunday, April 21), here are some thoughts about worship service themes:

On Sunday, April 7, “The Free Way” will be based on the prophet Isaiah chapter 43, who tells us that God is about to do a new thing! God will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:16-19

On Sunday, April 14 (Palm Sunday), “The Other Way” will be based on the Gospel of Luke chapter 19, which describes Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. There was joyful praise of God, setting the stage for an eventful week! Perhaps we, too, are being called to “The Other Way”?
